Considering personal injuries in GenX contamination

After reports of GenX in Wilmington’s drinking water, claims have been made about various cancers and other illnesses which could motivate anyone to take legal action if they have been affected.

The discovery of GenX from the Chemours plant in Cape Fear River and treated water alarmed the public because of the unknown health effects of this chemical compound on the population, prompting calls seeking legal advice.

The Chemours plant has been discharging GenX and other chemicals into the river for years.

Taking into consideration past experiences with water contamination in Wilmington and other communities, as well as other parts of the country, we know the effects in humans can take years to manifest and when they do, it already has done a lot of harm.

We advise people to check with their doctors, be aware of the health issues mentioned in Greg Jones Law website and keep informed.

We are gathering more information. We’re concern the same ailments found in studies done on lab rats could be related.

We need a better understanding of this substance’s impact in 250,000 people currently living in Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.

If you have cancer, thyroid tumors or colitis, you should consider this. Call Greg Jones Law. We’re taking calls about possible personal injuries.

What you should know about health effects

There is limited health information available about GenX and other compounds found in the Wilmington’s water at this moment, but public pressure and new scientific interest has just begun.

GenX is a chemical used in the manufacturing of fluoropolymer resins, used for nonstick coatings and other products. It was developed and introduced by DuPont in 2009 as a replacement for PFOA or C8, another compound found to be toxic if ingested and very harmful to people.

PFOA or C8 was also an unregulated, like GenX is today, but EPA phased it out of the industry after a class-action lawsuit alleged it caused cancer. That lawsuit was recently settled.

GenX is very similar in structure to PFOA and others in the family of fluorinated compounds, which we already know can caused kidney and testicular cancer, impaired fetal development and effects on the liver, thyroid and the immune system in laboratory test with rats.

Dr. Susanne Brander, a toxicologist at UNC Wilmington, as other scientist, have expressed in public forums and the media that to understand GenX we should look at its predecessor to get an idea of what could be expected.
